Western Australian Landscape Opal
Australia is still - rightly - considered the "motherland" of opals, and fascinates with numerous valuable precious opal varieties. Less well-known than their opalescent counterparts, but also very popular among collectors and opal fans, are opal varieties with no play-of-colour. Such stones are found around the town of Norseman in Western Australia. This area is known for its rich mineral resources and owes its economic strength to large deposits of gold, crude oil, natural gas, and diamonds. However, this area is also known to opal connoisseurs as a source for fascinating Moss Opals, mysterious Landscape Opals, and sunny Orange Opals - an orange-coloured, individually structured opal variety. These stunning stones also have their admirers among opal collectors!
